The Energy Management Exhibition (EMEX) is an annual event that takes place at London’s ExCeL every November. A free to attend event, it features over a hundred exhibiting companies offering both products and services to help businesses reduce their energy consumption and expenditure. Its key show zones include utilities and energy services, training, energy in facility management, and energy management solutions.
When top energy company E.ON signed up to exhibit at the 2016 event to talk about their new energy-saving solutions for businesses, they turned straight to MCS to create an attention-grabbing stand for the exhibition.
E.ON gave MCS the task of the designing and building a stand that would be modern, interactive and could be easily re-used for future exhibitions. It also needed to effectively display E.ON’s new car charging point.
With a blank canvas and no specific budget to work to, MCS’ team immediately sat down to plan how they could maximise the space and make E.ON’s stand the best in the show. The company’s key aim for exhibiting was to showcase its eco-friendly car solutions and new car charging point, so MCS needed to seamlessly blend creativity and practicality within their proposal.
In the lead up to the exhibition, MCS very much became an extension of the E.ON team during the three month long design and build process, taking weekly calls with the client to ensure they were fully updated and happy with all arrangements.
The stand was built at MCS’ headquarters in Nottingham and transported to London. One of E.ON’s key requirements was that the stand could be reused for future events. MCS cleverly designed and built a modular stand consisting of two metre sections; a flexible design which allows the stand to be reconstituted for future exhibitions. Its versatility will also allow the stand to look different every time.
For EMEX, MCS designed the 10m x 5m stand to incorporate three large eye-catching screens that could be seen by visitors outside the stand – especially in the networking and sponsor areas which neighboured E.ON’s space.
Due to Health and Safety regulations at the venue, the graphics shown on the screen needed to be minimal to discourage people gathering in the walkway and causing blockages. Instead, the screens displayed short three-second slides, which aimed to attract visitors to the stand and ultimately get them interacting with the products on display. In addition, iPads were set up around an informal seating area to allow visitors to view E.ON’s product website and speak to the company’s advisors.
To further enhance the stand’s appeal, luminous red LED lighting glowed on the floor around the edging; this fully complied with the venue’s Health and Safety Policy for stand entrance visibility, as well as incorporating the company’s main brand colour.
As EMEX geared up to open its doors, four of the MCS team were on-site for two days building the stand. The team also provided all vinyls, graphics, electrics, furniture, all logistical arrangements associated with putting the stand in place, as well as travel and accommodation for the team.
From start to finish, MCS made sure the creation of the E.ON stand ran smoothly, which resulted in attendees enjoying the interactive displays, products and striking visuals on show. MCS received excellent feedback from the E.ON team right from the start; from immediate approval of their design proposal, to the final de-rig at the end of the show.
Following the event, E.ON reported a record level of footfall, enabling E.ON to secure strong leads within their target market.
E.ON Head of Events:-
"MCS took our brief to create an open, light and modern stand and gave us a something so fresh and funky. It really helped us to display our energy solutions and brand in a clear and eye catching way. The space worked perfectly, allowing a natural flow of customers on to the stand with quiet seated areas for engaging conversations."
E.ON B2B Marketing Manager:-
“We received several comments from members of the public and other stand organisers who were all impressed by the innovative design and crisp branding. Our stand also featured in event publicity following the event as it really was the most striking stand. From a business perspective we were thrilled that the stand was both eye-catching and welcoming. We received a great deal of traffic onto the stand and, with the clear imagery, I’m sure we will have caught the attention of the majority of visitors to the event.”
